allow-reinstalls basic user guide

The allow-reinstalls WordPress plugin enables you to update an existing plugin or theme using standard WordPress functionality when the plugin or theme is already installed and activated.

Pre-requisite steps

Install and activate the allow-reinstalls WordPress plugin.
  • Login as an administrator
  • Visit Plugins > Add New > Upload Plugin
  • Choose the required .zip file (e.g. allow-reinstalls v0.0.0.zip ) then click on Install Now
  • Click on the Activate plugin link

Steps to update a plugin

  • Login as an administrator
  • Ensure that the allow-reinstalls plugin is activated
  • Visit Plugins > Add New > Upload Plugin
  • Choose the required .zip file then click on Install Now
  • If you want to update another plugin click on the Return to Plugins page link.
  • Consider deactivating the allow-reinstalls plugin

Activate Plugin | Return to Plugins page

Steps to update a theme

  • Login as an administrator
  • Ensure that the allow-reinstalls plugin is activated
  • Visit Appearance > Themes > Add New > Upload Theme
  • Choose the required .zip file then click on Install Now
  • If you want to check it’s OK click on the Return to Themes page link
  • Consider deactivating the allow-reinstalls plugin
