How to upgrade to Weight zone shipping for WooCommerce

Q. How can I upgrade to Weight zone shipping for WooCommerce?

A. From v0.2.0, oik-weight-zone-shipping provides a migration tool that was previously only available to the the premium version, oik-weight-zone-shipping-pro.

Automatic migration – step by step

1. Backup your site.
2. Install and activate the oik-weight-zone-shipping plugin.
3. Visit WooCommerce > Settings > Shipping.
4. Select the “Multi Rate Weight Zone” tab.
5. Choose the “Perform Migration” action and press “Save changes”.
6. Check the messages displayed.
7. When satisfied choose the “Complete Migration” action and press “Save changes”.
8. Deactivate your previously active Weight/Country shipping plugin

Note: This video was recorded with oik-weight-zone-shipping-pro v0.0.1 on a WordPress Multisite installation. The steps are basically the same for oik-weight-zone-shipping.

Manual migration – step by step

The first few steps are the same as for automatic migration.

1. Backup your site
2. Install and activate the oik-weight-zone-shipping plugin.
3. Visit WooCommerce > Settings > Shipping.

To manually migrate your settings from Weight/country shipping to Weight zone shipping you will need to
manually copy all the shipping rates from the Weight/Country shipping rates tab.

For each Country group:

1. Create a new Shipping zone.
2. Add the countries to the Shipping zone.
3. Add the Weight zone shipping method to the Shipping zone.
4. Copy and edit the settings from the Weight/Country shipping rate table.

If you used Country Group 0, for default shipping rates for other countries, then you will need to define settings for the “Rest of the World”.

1. Add the Weight zone shipping method to the “Rest of the World” shipping zone.
2. Copy and edit the settings for country group 0.

Rerun migration

Should you want to rerun the migration, it’s now possible using oik-weight-zone-shipping v0.2.0, or higher.

1. Reactivate the oik weight/country shipping plugin.
2. Visit WooCommerce > Settings > Shipping.
3. Delete the Shipping Zones.
4. Re-enable the Weight/Country shipping method.
5. Select the Multi Rate Weight Zone tab.
6. Choose the “Perform Migration” action and press “Save changes”.
7. Check the messages displayed.
8. When satisfied choose the “Complete Migration” action and press “Save changes”.
9. Deactivate your previously active Weight/Country shipping plugin.
