Oikko Celebrates 49th Anniversary of The Victory and Organizes 1st Digital Jute Product Fair 2020

For the first time in Bangladesh, ‘JDPC-Oikko’ multipurpose jute product fair has been inaugurated. This fair has been organized to distribute jute products all around the world in a new way. 

Minister of Industries Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun inaugurated the ‘JDPC- Oikko’ fair on Thursday virtually. Textile and Jute Minister Golam Dastagir Gazi was also present on the occasion as a special guest.

Shahin Akhtar Rainy, President of Oikko Foundation, presided over the event while Apu Mahfuz, Founder Chairman of Oikko Foundation hosted the program. 

30 local and international entrepreneurs participated in this ten-day digital fair.

Speaking as the chief guest, Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun, Minister of Industries, said, “Jute industry is highly valued in local and international markets. Advance uses of jute should be spread more widely because it is the lifeline of our economy.”

“Small entrepreneurs will be benefitted from this fair. Besides, the Ministry of Jute and Industry will also work to restore the lost tradition of jute.”

Speaking as the special guest, Golam Dastagir Gazi, Textile and Jute Minister, said, “Our entrepreneurs, especially women entrepreneurs, are working with a wide range of jute products. JDPC of our ministry is preparing entrepreneurs through various trainings. Jute products can play a vital role in the development of our economy.”

He added, “I thank Oikko Foundation for arranging such a digital fair. Entrepreneurs who cannot participate in fairs abroad will easily be able to export their products through this fair.”

Mohammad Abul Kalam, Executive Director (Additional Secretary, Ministry of Textiles and Jute), Jute Diversification Promotion Center (JDPC), said, “This ten-day fair will surely be a success and our entrepreneurs will get new opportunities too. Due to the Covid pandemic, we are unable to arrange a jute fair physically in a large scale. In such a situation, this virtual JDPC-Oikko Digital Jute Product Fair 2020 can be a delight to the entrepreneurs. Thanks to everyone, and specially to Oikko Foundation, for lending their helping hand to us.”

Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC) Chairman Mushtaq Hasan said there is a special demand for jute products all over the world. “We have jute products in the industrial city of BSCIC, especially in Narsingdi. We want to work together to bring back the golden days of jute and its products in the country.”

Speaking on the occasion, Shahin Akhtar Rainy, President of Oikko Foundation and a prominent woman leader, said, “Jute is a powerful force. We call it the golden fiber. Bangladesh’s jute and its versatile jute products have a great demand in the international market. Entrepreneurs are representing the country in the global arena with various jute products. Already, we have showcased the bright position of jute products online and in local markets through oikko.com.bd.”

Rashedul Karim Munna, an international multipurpose entrepreneur of jute products, said, “Entrepreneurs had lost a lot of hope during corona. JDPC-Oikko Digital Fair has brought back the lost hope among the jute product entrepreneurs. This is certainly a timely and courageous step towards development.”
